My name is Kalen and I’ve worked in higher education for 15 years, predominantly in financial aid departments. I’ve been assisting with a holistic college planning approach for the past 2 years as part of Customized College Planning. I have a graduate degree in College Administration and am earning my graduate certificate in college admissions from UC Berkeley.

During my presentation I will discuss the cost of college, college admissions, and a financial aid overview. You can plan on learning how to chose the right college and how to maximize your scholarship potential.

I’ve worked in higher education for over 20 years in a variety of capacities including admissions, orientation, student activities, and Greek life at both the community college and university levels. In 2014 I founded MyAdvisorSays.com; a private independent academic consulting firm to help students get into and thrive in college. I get to help students plan their curriculum, choose majors and careers, and develop a personal brand to help them land their dream job. I am passionate about education in all forms and encouraging others to achieve their dreams.

College application season is here! One of the most important parts of the application is the essay but getting your student to sit down and work on it can be a struggle. Don’t fight about it, come to this workshop and get it done! This workshop will walk attendees thru what makes a good admissions essay, including;

  • What admissions counselors are looking for.
  • The secret 5 part formula that almost all great essays follow.
  • How to choose your essay topic.
  • Which common app essay topics that get the most acceptances.
  • What topics to avoid at all costs.

Students will leave with a personalized list of essay topics, example essays and an outline they will use to complete their Common App essay.

She homeschooled her three children for 18 years, taught Latin at a private Christian school and served on the board of Legacy for Christ Speech and Debate and Voices of Truth for 12 years.
